Project OneStep

Onestep is an app project that I worked on with two other students (Kevin Absen & Max Kievits). The app’s dedicated purpose is to support people with achieving their goals and dreams. The app will help with a lot of things like: Inspiring you with new goals and dreams, meeting new people who share the same interests, share the experiences so other people know what it’s like and it will motivate you to keep going. If you want to know more about this app or more about the steps we took in order to create it. Then don’t hesitate to contact me, or follow us at Twitter or Instagram @thisisonestep

UI

We did a lot of research and made a lot of iterations for our user interface. We made sure our color palette was appealing and still be viewable for colorblind people. We also made sure each category had its own color so navigation in our app would become much easier this way. And of course we did not forget to implement direct user feedback like showing that you’ve successfully logged in and that you added a step into your dream in the top screen.

UX

We wanted to create the best user flow for our users. We did a lot of test in order to determine the best flow for our app. For example we determined that the login/register screen is best shown after the short tutorial and over all experience. This is because users get a better look and feel off the app this way.

Motion Design

I added some motion design elements in our app as well. We did this to make the app feel less static and more appealing to our users. We wanted to make people more satisfied when thy give someone a like or achieve a step towards their dream. We hope that we stimulate people to do this more often because of this.

We noticed that there are more and more people using apps that are taking away their private time like facebook and reddit. So we wanted to make an app that does the opposite. Instead of keeping you hooked we want an app that shows you how wonderful life can be without your phone once in a while. Doesn’t mean you wont need your phone because you’ll still need to use our app and google maps for example but you get the point. In order to do that we did a lot of research world wide in order to get the best results possible. We are still in the test/alpha phase of our app so you would expect a full release next year ;).Besides that we also thought about what the dopamine triggers are in our app. Because if people don’t get hooked on your app they are most likely not going to use it very often. We want to find a balance between people getting hooked on our app and spend time on their dreams so they won’t forget the wonderful thing they are accomplishing. On the right you can find a presentation we did for the showcase at the HKU. The video is in dutch so my apologies if you can’t understand the language.
